Second Annual Cannabis Legalization Rally at CSU Monterey Bay

On April 26th, the CSU Monterey Bay chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) hosted the second annual Cannabis Legalization Rally in the main quad of CSUMB. The rally featured live music from campus bands, speeches about the injustice of the so-called ‘War on Drugs,’ and organizing for cannabis legalization in California in November 2010. Four Twenty is a Smoking Good Time for Thousands at UC Santa Cruz

Four-Twenty, the international day of celebration for the cannabis culture held annually on April 20th, saw record numbers of marijuana consumers and legalization advocates at huge rallies across the planet this year.
Pot-puffing peoples from cities in Canada, the United States, and other points across the globe came out in force to proclaim their love for the cannabis plant and show authorities it is time to end marijuana prohibition.
The annual Four Twenty celebration at UC Santa Cruz drew thousands of people to the Porter Meadow, where people made music, danced, played in costumes, chilled with friends, and of course, smoked copious amounts of marijuana in pipes, joints, blunts, bongs and bubblers. Read More and View Photos
Hundreds Marching in Downtown Santa Cruz “Education Should Be Free!”

Hundreds of students marched through the streets of downtown Santa Cruz on March 4th as part of the day of action for public education.
To start the day, students, faculty, and workers gathered at 5am at UC Santa Cruz to protest the privatization of public education in California. They used their bodies to block the streets at the intersections of High & Western, Hagar & Coolidge, and the west entrance of campus.
UCSC was shutdown throughout the day, with traffic prevented from going up to campus. As of 7am, hundreds of students, faculty and workers had gathered at all entrances to campus.
Thousands participated in the actions throughout the day, including rallies at the base of campus at 9am, noon, and a 5pm general assembly that decided to mobilize the protest to downtown Santa Cruz. Read More and View Photos
March 4th Day of Action for Education in Watsonville

On March 4th, the Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers, along with Viernes Cultural, parents, students, and community partners, held a rally in the Watsonville plaza and a symposium to support public education and bring the community together to call for “No more cuts to education!”
The rally began with music by La Sangre. High School students, parents, teachers and union members spoke at the rally. A symposium was held in the Watsonville Cabrillo College Forum and featured John Silver, a filmmaker and video director for the New Teacher Project. Read More and View Photos
UC Santa Cruz Students Occupy Kerr Hall

On Thursday, November 19th, the Regents of the University of California approved a 32% increase in undergraduate fees. As part of the ongoing local and global protests against the privatization of education, Kerr Hall at UC Santa Cruz, which contains the offices of the administration, vice-chancellors, and chancellors, was occupied by hundreds of students. The students created a list of demands which was read and given to UCSC’s Executive Vice Chancellor David Kliger and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Felicia McGinty. The first three demands are to, “Repeal the 32% fee increase; Stop all current construction on campus; and UC funds and budget are made transparent.” Read More and View Photos
